Letts first responder named Decatur Co. Firefighter of the Year

(GREENSBURG, Ind.) – A longtime Letts firefighter was the recipient of an award on Thursday morning.

Battalion Chief Chris Kachur was named Decatur County Firefighter of the Year from the Greensburg Optimist Cub.

Kachur has served as a first responder for more than 30 years. He has also served as a scout leader and has demonstrated commitment and dependability to the community.

Fellow Letts Battalion Chief and Optimist Club member Calvin Venable presented the award to Kachur.

“Chris wears many hats, including firefighter, medic, leader, mentor, scout leader, father, and most of all, a friend,” Vanable said.

The Letts Volunteer Fire Department added, “We cannot be more thankful for Chris and his dedication to not only Letts Fire/EMS but the entire community. His impact is beyond measure.”

The ceremony was held at the Greensburg Fire Department.
