(GREESBURG, Ind.) – A new community event called ‘Talking Tombstones’ will bring Decatur County history to life.

The Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County will host the event at South Park Cemetery from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 24.

Attendees can visit 15 historically significant tombstones at the cemetery where costumed characters will give their real life story.

“Visit with Elizabeth Finnern, the only woman buried on Soldier’s Circle. She dressed as a Union soldier so she could serve alongside her husband John. Hear from other noteworthy citizens, from Greensburg’s founder Thomas Hendricks and the Father of Cancer Genetics Aldred Scott Warthen, to Greensburg’s first librarian Bessie Monfort to war heroes Ira Grover and Jack Shriver-and many more,” said organizer John Pratt.

Each stop will take up to five minutes and you can attend anytime during the 3-hour event.

It is a free-will donation and all proceeds will benefit the  Arts and Cultural Council of Decatur County.

Since 1995, the Arts & Cultural Council of Decatur County has helped shape a more vibrant and connected community by supporting local artists and creating opportunities for people to experience and participate in arts and cultural programs over the years.

More events are coming soon. Questions should be directed to John Pratt, Executive Director, at jowpratt63@yahoo.com
