Locally-organized trip takes veterans to Washington, D.C.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Local veterans, their spouses and some community members were given the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. this weekend.

The Southeastern Indiana Veterans Trip is an all-expenses paid trip that’s made possible by the City of Lawrenceburg. 

Vietnam veteran and Indiana Military Hall of Fame member PG Gentrup has organized this annual trip for at least 15 years. 

The trip serves as an opportunity for veterans to not only visit national monuments, but to also form new bonds with others who have served. 

On Friday, they made a stop at Shanksville, Pennsylvania to pay respects to the victims of Flight 93 on the 25th anniversary of September 11.

On Saturday, the group visited numerous memorials while four of the veterans were given the opportunity to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. 

The oldest person on the trip is 94-years-old and the youngest are 9-year-old Raya Ziegler and 9-year-old Duke Perfect.
