Madison man who accused cops of human trafficking arrested in Texas

Police investigated the allegations

(MADISON, Ind.) — A Madison man was arrested in Texas this week on charges that stemmed from allegations he made in Indiana.

Indiana State Troopers say 37-year-old Abel Martinez accused two local police officers of human trafficking in October.

“He additionally accused a judge and other public officials of assisting in human trafficking his ex-wife and children,” ISP Versailles Post spokesperson Stephen Wheeles said.

Police investigated and determined there was no basis for the allegations made against the police officers or judge, Wheeles added.

“The investigation also determined that he had engaged in stalking and harassment of his ex-wife over the past three years,” he said.

The Jefferson County prosecutor later charges Martinez with Stalking, False Informing and Harassment.

A warrant was issued in March and his location was unknown until he was arrested in the Beaumont, Texas area.

Martinez is expected to be brought back to Indiana soon for an initial court appearance.
