Another tenant had previous medical experience

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – The City of Lawrenceburg opens a Warming Center for those who are homeless or displaced when the forecast dictates dangerous temperatures during the winter months.
It’s located at the Lawrenceburg Boy Scout Cabin, which also serves as a cooling center during extreme heat in the summer.
Due to the winter storm and freezing conditions, the Warming Center has been open since January 3 which likely led to a life being saved this weekend.
A 72-year-old homeless man was staying at the Warming Center when he had a medical episode around 3 a.m. Sunday.
Another person at the warming center happened to be a former EMT who is now homeless.
She began CPR while also calling 9-1-1 and requesting an ambulance.
"He was rushed to the hospital. If he’d been sleeping outside somewhere, or possibly even alone, the outcome could have been much different,” said Ken Maddin, who is a volunteer with the non-profit Community Project.
The man has already been released from the hospital and is back at the Warming Center tonight.
While the warming center is operated by the City of Lawrenceburg, Rachel Reynolds with the Community Project has organized a meal train initiative which has provided warm meals everyday so far. Learn more about that initiative here.
The Lawrenceburg Warming Center is located at 461 West High Street and there is also a warming shelter in Greensburg.
