Fiber internet outage impacting REMC customers

(UPDATE - 7 P.M. Wednesday)

Fiber internet was restored around 6:30 p.m.  for many REMC customers in Southeast Indiana.

Original Story

(OSGOOD, Ind.) – A widespread fiber internet outage continues to impact Southeast Indiana residents.

The outage began around 9 p.m. Tuesday and has impacted customers of Southeast Indiana REMC and Decatur County REMC.

The outage was caused by a fiber line being cut outside of the area.

“SEI Fiber connects members through an upstream fiber provider, and that provider is currently experiencing an outage. This issue is affecting multiple providers in the area, not just SEI Fiber,” the organization said.

The outage has also led to Southeastern Indiana REMC’s phone lines being down as well.

As of 6 p.m., there is no estimated time for restoration.

“Our team remains in direct communication with our upstream fiber provider as they work to restore service. We understand how frustrating it is to be without internet and phone service, and we are continuing to seek the same information our members are asking for, including when service will be restored,” Southeastern Indian REMC stated.
