(CORVALLIS, MT.) – A Montana man has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison for wildlife poaching.

Jason Rulon Davis, of Corvallis, has been convicted and sentenced of 18 wildlife poaching violations.

Investigators say Davis had a history of hunting violations but continued the illegal activities.

In total, Davis was found guilty of unlawful possession and related charges for six game animals, including three trophy mule deer bucks, two trophy white-tailed bucks, and a mountain lion.

Investigators say he also helped his son poach a mule deer buck from the roadway. The animal had a gross score over 197 inches.

“Davis and his son then removed the head and antlers of the deer, leaving the carcass to waste,” stated Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks.

He has received a 15-year prison sentence, lot his hunting, fishing and trapping privileges for life and must pay a $50,000 restitution.

“Once Davis is released from prison, he will be prohibited from accompanying anyone hunting, fishing, or trapping and barred from entering public or private lands where hunting is permitted, to include FWP Block Management Areas for the duration of his sentence,” investigators said.

Officials added that tips from the public helped lead to the conviction.
