(MOOREFIELD, Ind.) – Moorefield volunteer firefighters are welcoming the community to their annual Ice Cream Social today!
The Switzerland County fire department began this tradition in 1959 and it serves as a fundraiser for the department.
Homemade ice cream is available for both dine-in and carry out customers. It starts at 5 p.m. and there will also be desserts and drinks available.
This unique fundraiser helps provide funding for firefighting equipment and other upgrades for the department.
“Gear for one firefighter is around $6,500 and needs to be replaced every 10 years. Equipment to keep the firehouse going can be up into the thousands of dollars,” the department said.
The Moorefield Community Volunteer Fire Department is located at 8124 State Road 129 in Vevay.
