More than a Building: MMH cuts ribbon on new hospital

(BATESVILLE. Ind.) – Margaret Mary Health celebrated the grand opening of the new $125 million hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Indiana Governor Mike Braun, U.S. Representative Erin Houchin were among the attendees that also included community leaders, donors, project partners and elected officials,

The facility represents one of the most significant investments in the region's history and comes at a time when many rural hospitals nationwide face mounting financial pressure.

“This opening of this facility sends a clear message, Margaret Mary Health is committed to our team members, to our patients, and to the future of high-quality healthcare in Southeastern Indiana,” said MMH CEO Liz Leising.

She added that the new hospital is more than a building. It is an investment in the health and future of the region.

Attendees were given the opportunity to tour the hospital and you can see photos below.

Governor Braun praised the project by saying it's an example of what rural communities can accomplish when leadership, donors and residents work together.

"Margaret Mary Health's new hospital is a tremendous example of what can happen when communities invest in their own future. This investment will help ensure families across southeastern Indiana have access to exceptional healthcare close to home while creating opportunities that will benefit this region for generations,” Gov. Braun said.

The Margaret Mary Health Foundation played a central role in making the project possible, raising $10.7 million from community donors to support construction.

The new hospital was built by Danis, Bruns-Gutzwiller and GBBN, and replaces the former building that has serviced the region since 1932.

That history was front and center throughout the day's celebration, echoing the health system's tagline, "Generations of Care", a phrase inspired by the many community members who have told MMH staff some version of the same story: "My mom was born here, I was born here, and I had my kids here, too."

The new hospital allows Margaret Mary Health to continue offering a broad spectrum of services with spaces designed to help physicians, nurses, therapists, and other caregivers work together more effectively, and to support continued growth and innovation as healthcare needs evolve.
