(SUNMAN, Ind.) – A dog was rescued after falling through the ice at Indian Lakes on Monday.
The incident happened around 5:15 p.m. and Morris firefighters responded within minutes.
Firefighters say the dog had a tracking device on the collar which the owner used to locate the animal.
Morris Fire deployed an ice rescue boat and safely brought the dog to land.
The department conducts annual ice training including last year when they hosted several agencies on Bischoff Reservoir.
Firefighters added that the dog’s owner did the right thing by remaining off the ice while they called for assistance.
“Please stay off the ice until it is thoroughly frozen, and never attempt to rescue animals from the ice yourself,” the department said.
Morris Fire was assisted by Ripley County Medic 10 and Sunman Rescue 20.
