Celebrating students who have tremendous character

(CEDAR GROVE, Ind.) – Mount Carmel School has created a new program where they shine a light on the students who display positive characteristics.
The Vikings of Valor program allows teachers to pick one primary school student and one intermediate school student each month.
Students are selected based on the traits of honesty, work ethic, kindness, compassion and integrity.
They are celebrating their inaugural recipients who are second grader Eldon Sauerland and sixth grader Bailey Cochran.
Eldon received the Viking of Valor because of his trustworthiness and is wonderful personality every day at school.
“He is very responsible and treats others with respect. He is a classroom leader and an excellent role model for the type of student all should strive to be! Eldon is such a bright spot in everyone’s day! He not only excels at being a great friend, student, and athlete; he is also humorous, and creative,” teachers said.
Bailey Cochran earned the first-ever Viking of Valor award as well.
The sixth grader received numerous nominations based on her compassion, encouragement of others, creativity and talent.
One teacher even said, “She makes us smile, young and old alike!”
Another teacher added, “Bailey is the perfect example of a Student of Valor. She is one who not only brightens a room with her love and compassion, but one who knows how to be optimistic when challenges arise.
"She knows what it's like to have to work hard for achievement. She understands that our classroom talents don't define our character, but instead it's how we choose to look our weaknesses in the face and keep moving forward," they said.
Congratulations to Eldon and Bailey on being named the Vikings of Valor for the month of February!
