(ST. LEON, Ind.) – Local bluegrass band My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) has released a new song that will resonate memories for people in the Tri-State.
The giant King of Kings statue, known as Touchdown Jesus, could be seen from Interstate 75 north of Cincinnati.
It was struck by lightning in 2010 and a replacement statue was later constructed.
MBK has released a new song called “Touchdown Jesus” an ode to a Cincinnati legend.
The song idea came from an audience member in Colorado at the High Mountain Hay Fever Bluegrass Festival.
Band member Benjamin Luckhaupt was making jokes about landmarks on Interstate 75 and told the crowd about the iconic statue.
An audience member suggested that MBK should write a song about it. The band agreed to write and perform the song by the end of the festival that week, and thus “Touchdown Jesus” was born.
The song was previously only available as a bonus track on MBK’s latest album “Wartime Cartoons” album, but is now available for download.
"The song is produced by Joseph Terrell of Mipso, and he has spiced it up with some guitar work and ad libs. The music is a reflection of the gospel quartets and classic country we love," Benjamin said.
MBK will have two upcoming performances in our area, including at the Gibson Theater in Batesville at 6 p.m. on Saturday, November 15 and First Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 16.
