(SUNMAN, Ind.) – A new pizzeria in Sunman will bring back memories for some residents.

Doug Burns grew up in town and worked several years at Wheels Pizza when he was younger.

For the past few years, he's been planning to open a pizza restaurant of his own and it now becoming a reality.

It's called Sunman House of Pizza and is opening this month.

“The reason I decided to get back in the business is because I feel Sunman needs another option for a restaurant and I also want to do something good for the community,” Burns said.

It will feature the old-time pizzeria style where the hand-tossed pizzas are cooked on a brick deck oven. Exactly like it was at Wheels Pizza while Burns has made a few minor changes to the ingredients.

The menu consists of several specialty pizzas as well as a build-your-own option. Cutomers can also order hoagies, appetizers and drinks.

It is located at 208 North Meridian Street which is a building that was constructed in 1901.

The building originally served as the town’s first bank. It has also been a post office, barber shop, tax consultant and bakery over the years.

Sunman House of Pizza offers carryout, curbside and delivery options to the greater Sunman area.

“I’m trying to make really good pizza here that people will like,” Burns said.

It will be open 4-8 p.m. on weekdays and then 4-10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Orders can be placed online or by calling (812) 621-7004.
