North Vernon man accused of having child-related material

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – Authorities in Jennings County are continuing their efforts to pursue suspects who are alleged to have indecent photos or videos of children.

Jennings County detectives received a cybertip from the National Center for Exploited or Missing Children (NCMEC) earlier this month that a North Vernon man was allegedly receiving and distributing Child Sex Abuse Material. 

36-year-old Randy Porter was identified as the suspect and a deputy located him riding a motorcycle earlier today.

A traffic stop was initiated and Porter allegedly was in possession of methamphetamine. He was taken into custody by Jennings County detectives as part of the child-related investigation. 

Police conducted a search of his house while he was being interviewed by investigators. 

“Detectives retrieved multiple electronic devices that contain addition Child Sex Abuse Material. During the interview of Mr. Porter, Mr. Porter admitted to possessing and distributing Child Sex Abuse Material,” according to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department. 

Porter has been charged with Child Exploitation, Possession of Methamphetamine and Invasion of Privacy. 

The Jennings County Sheriff's Office ICAC Task Force is part of a collaborative law enforcement program that investigates and helps prevent crimes involving the online exploitation of children. 

"Investigations involving Child Sexual Abuse Material remain a high priority, and detectives will continue to aggressively investigate and pursue those responsible for the possession, distribution, and production of such material," the sheriff's department said in June.
