North Vernon man arrested after threatening deputies

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – A North Vernon man has been arrested after allegedly making threats toward Jennings County deputies.

Police say 29-year-old Jacob Layton specifically named three deputies and made specific threats.

Authorities say they also learned Layton was in possession of a gun.

Due to Layton's status as a Serious Violent Felon, the information regarding his possession of a firearm was treated as a serious public safety concern,” the department said.

An arrest warrant was issued and police raided a home on Covyshire Circle in Country Squire Lakes on Wednesday.

Layton was arrested along with a woman identified as Angela Davis.

“During a subsequent search of the residence, Deputies located a firearm with its serial number removed, along with Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia,” police said.

Layton is facing numerous charges including Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of a Firearm with Altered or Obliterated Serial Number

Davis has also been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Obstruction of Justice.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by the Indiana State Police S.W.A.T. Team, Jennings County Central Dispatch, Jennings County EMS, and the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office.

“The Sheriff’s Office takes all threats against law enforcement seriously. The coordinated response in this case allowed Deputies to safely execute the warrants and take the suspect into custody without further incident,” the department stated.
