North Vernon man dies in golf cart accident

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – A golf cart passenger died after an accident in North Vernon on Saturday night. 

The incident happened on North Jennings Street and police say the golf cart driver attempted to avoid a street cut in the roadway when the passenger fell and sustained a severe head injury. 

The passenger was identified as Christopher Johnson, of North Vernon, and first responders immediately began providing emergency aid. 

A medical helicopter was en route when Johnson passed away from his injuries at a local hospital.

“The driver submitted to chemical testing as part of the ongoing investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation remains ongoing pending the results of toxicology testing,” the North Vernon Police Department said. 

They added, “The North Vernon Police Department extends its condolences to the family and friends of Christopher Johnson during this difficult time.”
