Officials: Chlamydia cases on the rise locally

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – Health officials are warning the public about an increase in the number of a sexually transmitted disease in Dearborn County. 

The Dearborn County Health Department says there have been 37 confirmed cases of Chlamydia in 2026, which is an increase from 28 total cases last year. 

Dearborn County health officials are urging the community to stay informed and take proactive steps. 

“If you are sexually active, having unprotected sex, or are not in a mutually monogamous relationship, please schedule a screening,” said Dearborn County Health Officer Stephen Eliason. 

Most people with Chlamydia do not show any symptoms and routine testing is the only reliable way to detect the infection early.

If left untreated, Chlamydia can lead to severe long-term health issues, including chronic pelvic pain, pregnancy complications, persistent infections, and infertility.

The infection is generally treated quickly and effectively with a common course of antibiotics," Eliason said.
