Ogle Haus Inn in Vevay under threat to be demolished

(VEVAY, Ind.) – The Ogle Haus Inn in Vevay is under threat of being demolished. 

The 54-room hotel was built in the 1980s and was made possible by Vevay native and philanthropist Paul Ogle, who donated the land and money for the inn. 

This inn sits on the Ohio River and was designed to pay tribute to the county’s Swiss heritage. 

The parent company of Belterra Casino purchased the inn around 2000. It briefly served as private housing for the casino’s employees but transitioned back to a public hotel in 2002. 

Vevay town officials have been informed this week that Belterra Casino’s parent company is planning to tear down the hotel. 

They’ve been told that the hotel will close on September 8, be demolished in October, and the site of the inn will become a greenspace as early as February 2027. 

Town officials added that this decision was not made by anyone associated with the Town of Vevay or Switzerland County Council or Commissioners. 

“They were informed of this development on August 5 during a meeting requested by Belterra,” said Vevay clerk-treasurer Brandi Scudder. 

Upon hearing the news, local officials have immediately scheduled a joint meeting which will be held Friday, August 7. 

It will take place at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Switzerland County Tech Building which is located at 708 Seminary Street in Vevay. 

The meeting will include representatives from the Town of Vevay, County Commissioners and Council Council. 

A Belterra representative has also been requested, but it is unclear if one will attend the meeting.
