Ohio man finds old military cannonball on property

(MIDDLETOWN, OH.) – A military artifact was discovered by a homeowner in Butler County on Wednesday.

Deputies say a Middletown resident was digging around an oak tree when they found what appeared to be a cannonball.

Bomb squad members investigated it and it turned out to be 4.75-inch diameter solid shot cannonball, weighing nearly 8 pounds.

“Discoveries like this serve as a reminder that historical military artifacts can still be found throughout our area,” the sheriff’s department said.

They encourage anyone who finds a military-type ordnance to not handle it and contact local police.
