(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – Some major new additions are coming to Oldenburg in the near future.
On Monday, Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced the recipients of the READI 2.0 Arts & Culture grant.
There were nearly 50 projects chosen across Indiana as part of a $65M initiative to advance the state's arts and culture economy.
The Oldenburg Freudenfest Committee was one of those recipients and was awarded a $148,000 grant.
The funding will support future enhancements at the Maypole Heritage Park and will include a new performance pavilion, a new festival and a one-of-a-kind mural!
The Maibaum Performing Arts Pavilion will be used for year-round concerts, performances and arts and culture programming.
A new spring festival called the Oldenburg Maibaum Celebration will be created to honor the community's deep German heritage.
There will also be a new 195-foot, hand-painted mural that will cover the stone wall that overlooks Maypole Heritage Park.

"Together, these enhancements will strengthen Oldenburg’s identity as a place of authentic celebration, expand opportunities for local artists and musicians, and create a welcoming destination for year‑round cultural activity," officials said.
The total cost of this project is estimated at $296,000 and the Freudenfest Committee has providing matching funds.
No timeline has been announced on when the project will be completed.
The Maypole Heritage Park has experienced significant upgrades over the past year including walking trails, benches, and pickleball and basketball courts.
Oldenburg was one of four local recipients of READI 2.0 grants on Monday:
The Archaeological Research Institute (ARI) has received $424K for new investments at its Lawrenceburg campus
The Dillsboro Friendship Arts Gallery is getting $40,000 for the creation of the Dillsboro Studio Residency to develop local artists and cultivate creative entrepreneurs.
The Union County Foundation has received $1M to build an open-air pavilion and a documentary series to spotlight creative entrepreneurs.
