Oldenburg native retiring as Major General from Air Force

(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – An Oldenburg native who has earned the rank of Major General is retiring from the Air Force on Friday. 

Maj. Gen. Kevin Doyle graduated from Batesville High School in 1983 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. 

He earned his Air Force commission as a distinguished graduate through the Academy of Military Science in 1989.

Doyle has amassed more than 4,000 flying hours in the F-16, A-10C and numerous other military planes. 

Those flying hours include more than 128 combat missions that total over 400 combat hours. 

Maj. Gen. Doyle has been involved in military operations that include Southern Watch, Northern Watch, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. 

He most recently served as the Deputy Commanding General of the Security Assistance Group-Ukraine (SAG-U) in Germany. 

SAGU is comprised of approximately 500 joint and multinational service members from over 25 countries with the mission of providing long-term focused organizational structure to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

Doyle has previously served as the Air National Guard Assistant to Commander, Continental U.S. North American Aerospace Defense Command Region - 1st Air Force (Air Forces Northern), NORAD Deputy Combined Forces Air Component Commander (CFACC), Chief of Staff for the Indiana Air National Guard and also in a variety of unit command and headquarters positions with both the Ohio and Indiana National Guard. 

“I never had any personal objective or specific desires for a rank when it came to my military career, my only goal was and has been to serve,” Maj. Gen. Doyle told The 812.

He will officially retire from his 43-year military career this afternoon during a ceremony at the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis.
