Oldenburg officers have a combined 127 years of experience

(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – There is no shortage of experience at the Oldenburg Police Department. 

The three police officers who work at the station have worked in law enforcement for a combined 127 years!

Oldenburg Town Marshall Bill Dramann began his career with the City of Batesville in 1969. 

After working for Batesville for 24 years, Bill joined the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office and served two terms as sheriff. 

He later served as Sunman Town Marshal for eight years before joining Oldenburg. 

Bill recently announced that he will retire from the Oldenburg Police Department at the end of 2025. It will mark the end of a 57-year career in law enforcement. 

“The joy of this job is when you can help people. Sometimes we have to give a ticket or make an arrest, but the real joy is when you help somebody and they appreciate it,” Dramann said. 

Oldenburg Police also have two veteran officers who serve on the department. 

Officer Eric Moenter is now in his 30th year in law enforcement. 

He served the first two years in Laurel before joining the Oldenburg Police Department in 1997. 

Moenter will also retire from Oldenburg Police Department at the end of this year. 

“Nobody ever mentions it, but the wife of a police officer has to put up with a lot. Just the hours of the job but getting called out at all hours of the night. I am looking forward to spending more time with her and the entire family," Moenter said.

The third officer is Doug Wolfer who has been in law enforcement for 40 years. 

His career began with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in 1984. 

He also worked for Brookville Police for a few years before joining the Batesville Police Department in 1995. He retired from Batesville in 2018. 

While his co-workers have announced their retirements, Wolfer has not made any decision on when he will retire.
