One dead, others displaced after Connersville apartment fire

Happened on Sunday night

(CONNERSVILLE, Ind.) – One person died in an apartment fire in Connersville on Sunday.

The fire broke out around 6:25 p.m. at the Crossings Apartment Complex on Western Avenue.

Firefighters arrived within two minutes and fought the fire but were unable to rescue the person.

The identity of that individual has not yet been released.

Those firefighters rescued five other people from a second story window.

Fayette County EMS rushed one firefighter to the hospital for minor injuries. There were 30 apartment units displaced due to the fire. 

The Red Cross is coordinating with local churches to assist the displaced tenants.  

Local and state investigators are looking into what caused the fire.
