Osgood couple gets visit from momma bear, cubs in Tennessee

(GATLINBURG, TN.) – An Osgood couple got some unexpected visitors during their Memorial Day trip to East Tennessee this weekend. 

Mandy and Mark Mayhugh were hoping for a quiet weekend for their 12th anniversary when they reserved a cabin in the mountains outside of Gatlinburg. 

However, a black bear and her cubs decided the Mayhugh private party was worth attending! 

“We woke up to see momma bear and her four cubs in the back of the cabin, watched them slowly come to the front of our cabin and got to witness the cubs nursing on momma,” Mandy told The 812. 

The Mayhugh family posted that video on TikTok and it generated 1.3 million views as of Monday night. 

It didn’t end there as Momma Bear wanted a closer look at what the Mayhugh family was really up to. 

“Momma wasn't aggressive but we still stayed our distance until she decided to come on the porch to sip on my husband's coffee.”

Mark puts honey in his coffee and the couple thinks that is what attracted momma bear to the porch. 

“She wasn't aggressive by any means...but I still went into the cabin!! Momma bear knew she was safe around us,” Mandy added.
