Paws for a Purpose in Batesville on October 3

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) — The second annual “Paws for a Purpose” will take place in Batesville on Saturday, October 3. 

The event is held in honor of 21-year-old RIley Duerstock, a Batesville native who was tragically killed when her vehicle was struck by a drunk driver in northern Indiana in September 2023.

Riley was a nursing student at the University of Indianapolis. She had previously served as a medical intern in Ghana when she was 16 and was an organ donor. 

She also loved her dog, and all dogs.

Paws for a Purpose serves as a walk-your-dog event and community members are encouraged to bring their four-legged friends.

It will feature a pie auction, kids crafts, dog bandanas, paw-traits, puppy chow and free donuts. 

“New this year will be a cutest dog contest as well as a backdrop where walkers can take photos with their dog,” organizers said. 

All proceeds will go to the Riley Duerstock Nursing Scholarship which is awarded annually to students pursuing a career in nursing.
