(SUNMAN, Ind.) – A petition has been launched by some Dearborn County residents who oppose the potential development of a solar energy farm near Sunman.
The petition organizer says there have been rumors of a commercial-scale solar energy system near Benning Road. However, nothing has been confirmed as of now.
The organizer added that a road has been constructed in the area and was told it was for solar development.
“While we recognize the importance of responsible energy development, we believe that large-scale commercial solar facilities pose significant concerns that outweigh their potential benefits when sited in our county,” the organizer stated.
Opponents say some of their concerns are permanent loss of farmland, reduction in property values and environmental impacts.
The petition calls for Dearborn County officials to suspend any sort of approval.
