Photos: Franklin Co. seniors leave their mark on Brookville Dam

(BROOKVILLE, Ind.) – Franklin County’s senior class left their mark on the Brookville Dam on Thursday.

This longtime tradition involves the senior class weed-eating their graduating year into the dam for all to see for the next several months.

The annual initiative is led by teachers Shelby Hamilton and Sharon Volk who serve as the Senior Class Sponsors.

It used to be a student volunteer-based project but the two teachers have turned it into a field trip on the final day of school.

Senior Nikiya Childers said, “I think it’s a really special day to see all of our class come together and to continue a tradition that has been going on forever.”

The students arrived by buses and Brookville Lake Park Ranger Stephanie Ison provided instructions and oversaw the project.

The Class of 2026 then came down the hill to the Tailwater Shelter to admire the new “26” while having lunch that was catered by Skyline Chili

Class President Aubree Andre was among those who participated and said this was a great way to bring all of her classmates together one more time.

“When we leave school today or on our graduation day, to see that on the dam and know we did this as a class symbolizes our accomplishments and also the new chapter that is beginning,” Andre said.
