(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – Lawrenceburg Schools held a special presentation during their graduation ceremony on Sunday.

They invited 100-year-old George Klopp, Sr. to receive his high school diploma along with the current graduates.

Klopp was a Lawrenceburg senior in 1943 when he quit school to serve in the Navy during World War II.

He served for 22 months in the South Pacific before returning back to Dearborn County.

“It is important for us to correct something that is long overdue. While George left school to serve a greater cause, he never received a high school diploma,” Superintendent Karl Galey said last month.

In April, Klopp was given his high school diploma during the City of Lawrenceburg’s America 250 Celebration. Read that story here.

Lawrenceburg Superintendent Karl Galey invited Klopp to Sunday’s ceremony so he could get the true graduation experience.

His son, George Klopp, Jr., said his dad received quite the ovation during the ceremony.
