(VERSAILLES, Ind.) – Several organizations and schools participated in the annual Polar Plunge at Versailles State Park on Saturday.
Those who were brave enough for the cold swim raised at least $125 each as part of the Indiana Special Olympics fundraiser.
Local schools that were involved were South Dearborn, Milan, Dillsboro Elementary and South Ripley. Some schools had numerous groups representing them.
We spoke with South Ripley senior Mady Tingle who said her school raised $11,000.
“This is just a great cause in general and everybody deserves that chance to feel included and that they are part of something. And this makes me feel like I am part of something good that helps others,” Tingle said.
First responder agencies who supported the event included Dearborn County Water Rescue, Hanover Fire and Rescue, Ripley County EMS and Indiana DNR.
Versailles is one of 20 Polar Plunge fundraisers happening statewide. Last year, these events raised $1 million for Indiana Special Olympics programs.
