Police arrest ICE fugitive in Dearborn County

Happened during a traffic stop Thursday

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A man deemed as a fugitive of justice through the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been arrested in Dearborn County.

Dearborn County Deputy Max Meddings says he noticed a van making multiple traffic violations on Wednesday.

He stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 42-year-old Koba Shinjikashvili, of Philadelphia.

Shinjikashvili allegedly was in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and syringes.

He was arrested and is currently being held at the Dearborn Count Law Enforcement Center.

ICE placed a detainer on Shinjikashvili, who has been a fugitive of justice since 2006, according to the sheriff's office.

An ICE detainer is a request to hold a noncitizen for up to 48 hours after the normally would be released. The purpose is to determine if the person should be taken into federal custody.
