(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – Police say they found drugs when responding to an incident at the North Vernon Public Library last week.
The department was called because an individual who had been kicked out of the library came back.
The woman was identified as 42-year-old Michelle Helmling and officers gave her a trespass warning.
Police say a search of Helmling’s property led them to finding marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a prescription medication belonging to another individual.
She was booked into jail on charges of Possession of a Legend Drug, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Paraphernalia.
“This case demonstrates our commitment to maintaining safe public spaces while holding individuals accountable for illegal activity,” said Chief Keith Messer. “We appreciate the partnership with our community organizations and will continue to respond proactively when issues arise.”
