Police: Motorcycle drove 118MPH in 35MPH zone

(NORTH VERNON, Ind.) – A motorcycle driver was arrested after allegedly driving 118 miles-per-hour in Jennings County. 

Deputy Alex Campbell was out patrolling when he said he noticed a sport bike traveling far above the posted speed limit of 35 miles-per-hour.

Campbell said he clocked the motorcycle traveling 83 miles-per-hour above the legal speed limit. 

“At 118 MPH, things happen incredibly fast. A vehicle pulling out, a pedestrian stepping into the roadway, an animal crossing, or the slightest loss of control can turn into a tragedy in an instant. There simply isn't much time to react when you're traveling at that speed,” the sheriff's office said. 

The deputy pulled over the motorcycle and arrested the man that was driving. 

Police added, “Our Deputies understand that traffic enforcement isn't just about writing tickets. It's about preventing crashes, protecting innocent motorists, and making sure everyone has the opportunity to make it home safely."
