Police: Multiple agencies rescue three abducted children

Happened early Wednesday

(RICHMOND, Ind.) – Multiple police agencies worked together to rescue three children who were allegedly abducted early this morning.

Officers with the Richmond Police Department were told about a possible abduction at a Richmond hotel around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the father, 37-year-old Donovan Simmons, had taken his three children which was a violation of a protective order.

Simmons allegedly left the hotel with the children and was driving a truck with Kentucky plates.

Richmond Police called it an urgent situation and coordinated with surrounding agencies.

A police officer in Seymour located the suspect’s vehicle and was able to safely rescue the children around 3 a.m.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and the children have since been reunited with their mother.

“This incident could have had a tragic ending, but because of the dedication, skill, and relentless pursuit of justice from Sergeant Haskett and his team, three innocent children are now safe. Their actions exemplify what it means to serve and protect. I couldn’t be prouder of their work and the incredible partnership with the Seymour Police Department,” said Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly.

Richmond Police are also commending the actions of the Wayne County Emergency Communications, Indiana State Police, and Kentucky State Police.
