Police: Trooper stops wrong-way driver from hurting others during chase

(AURORA, Ind.) - An Indiana State Police trooper stopped a vehicle from crashing into oncoming traffic in Dearborn County this weekend. 

A police pursuit started after a trooper tried to stop the vehicle on U.S. 50 in Aurora around 2 a.m. Sunday. 

“The vehicle stopped initially but then fled from the trooper at a high rate of speed westbound on US 50 towards Dillsboro,” they said.

The suspect allegedly made a U-turn and started driving at more than 100 miles-an-hour on the wrong side of the road on U.S. 50.

That led the trooper to perform a PIT maneuver near West County Line Road due to the potential risk to other cars that were approaching.

The PIT maneuver resulted in the suspect’s vehicle rolling and a female being injured. She was rushed to a local hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. 

Police have not released her name but they added that the case will be handed over to the Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office. 

The ISP was assisted by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Lawrenceburg Police Department, Lawrenceburg EMS, Aurora EMS, Moores Hill EMS, Aurora Fire Department, Dillsboro Fire Department, and Affordable Todd’s Wrecker Service.
