Rare winter storm along the Gulf Coast dropping historic snow amounts

Snowfall from Houston to the Florida Panhandle

(PANAMA CITY, FL.) -- These sub-zero temperatures might have some of us thinking about a warm sunny beach.

Maybe somewhere like the Gulf Coast? It turns out they're not immune either this year.

A winter storm described as a “once-in-a-generation” is dropping record snowfall from Texas to Florida.

More than 10 inches of snow fell in parts of Louisiana, nearly reaching the state record of 13 inches.

New Orleans had a total of 10 inches by 6:30 p.m. Tuesday which ties a record set in the city back in 1895.

The City of New Orleans even had to hire a snow plow company from Indiana to treat the roads.

In other states, nearly inches of snow fell in Mobile, Alabama while parts of Florida have seen five inches of snow.

In Pensacola, five inches of snow recorded at the airport breaks the state's 130-year record for snowfall.
