(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The SAVE America Act passed through the House this week and now heads to the Senate.
The legislation aims to strengthen election integrity by requiring voters to present proof of citizenship, eliminate mail-only registrations and require photo ID to cast a ballot.
Rep. Erin Houchin (R-District 9) is a co-sponsor of the bill and said the measure will safeguard federal elections and restore public confidence in the voting process.
“The right to vote is one of the most sacred rights we have as Americans, and protecting it is not partisan,” said Houchin. “The SAVE America Act ensures that only American citizens are voting in American elections. Requiring proof of citizenship and voter ID strengthens trust in our system and ensures that our elections are fair and secure.”
Public polling consistently shows strong bipartisan support for voter identification requirements, Houchin added.
It passed through the House with a 218-213 vote and had unanimous support from Republican lawmakers.
