Retired Dearborn Co. K9 passes away

(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office has announced the passing of a retired K9.

K9 Glock began his law enforcement career in 2013 and he and his handler, Sgt. Josh Cochran, served the community together for more than 12 years. 

He assisted the department in drug detection, tracking, article searches, and criminal apprehension.

“He successfully met certification standards through several nationally recognized police K-9 organizations and distinguished himself in competition, earning five first-place finishes, five second-place finishes, and two third-place finishes,” the department stated.

The department shared some incidents where Glock assisted the department in a big way.

There was one night where the K9 tracked an armed suspect in the woods who had threatened others with a knife. 

On another occasion, during a late-night rainstorm, Glock tracked suspects involved in a home invasion through the woods and directly to the back door of their residence in a nearby neighborhood.

The department also acknowledged Glock for drug detection.

“His alerts contributed to significant drug seizures, including four ounces of methamphetamine during one traffic stop. In another investigation, Glock detected narcotics concealed within and underneath bales of hay in the bed of a truck,” the department said.

The department added that Glock served with courage and distinction, and his legacy will forever be a part of the sheriff’s office.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Sergeant Cochran and family, as well as everyone who had the privilege of working alongside Glock throughout his remarkable career,” the department said. 

They added,  “Rest easy, K-9 Glock. Your watch is over. Thank you for your service, your loyalty, and for always protecting those beside you.”
