A Napoleon resident is featured on the sculpture
(INDIANAPOLIS) – There is a unique Ripley County connection at a well-known downtown Indianapolis monument.
The Soldiers and Sailors Monument was built by German architect Bruno Schmidtz and it was completed in 1902.
It was originally designed to honor Indiana’s Civil War veterans. The monument now commemorates Hoosier veterans who served in all wars prior to World War I.
Napoleon resident Albert Hicks was a model that was used on the sculpture.
