Local football team celebrated his birthday last year

(RISING SUN, Ind.) – A Rising Sun World War II veteran is celebrating his 101st birthday on Sunday, September 14.
Leroy Guard served in the Army/Air Force in Italy during the Second World War.
It was one year ago when Leroy received some unexpected birthday wishes from a local high school football team.
Damien Dance was a Batesville senior who heard that Leroy’s family was seeking birthday cards for him.
Although Dance had never met Leroy, he had his Bulldog teammates sign cards that they sent to the Rising Sun veteran.
The 812 spoke with the Batesville football player last year. Watch that video below.
Local veteran PG Gentrup said Leroy Guard is one of only two living World War II veterans in Ohio County. The other veteran is Bill Elder.
