(INDIANAPOLIS) – A bipartisan bill that would address the veterinary shortage in Indiana is headed to the Governor’s desk.
State Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) authored the bill in an effort to expand the number of veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
Senate Enrolled Act 56 would help address the shortage by giving out-of-state veterinarians and veterinary technicians the opportunity to care for animals in Indiana.
It would also allow the Board of Veterinary Medicine to issue licenses without requiring an examination for applicants who have out-of-state licenses.
"This legislation would help expand the pool of large animal veterinarians in our state and give our farmers more options when their animals are in need of care," Leising said.
The bill has passed through both chambers of the Indiana legislation and is among the first in this year’s session that moves to Governor Mike Braun’s desk. He will either approve it into law or veto it.
