Sisters of St. Francis to host tours on August 15

(OLDENBURG, Ind.) – Community members are invited to tour the historic Motherhouse and grounds at the Sisters of St. Francis.

A public tour will be available from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.

It’s part of the 175th anniversary of the Sisters of the St. Francis and all of the tours are free of charge.

Guests will explore pieces of convent history that date back to before the Civil War. They will also learn more about Mother Theresa Hackelmeier, who founded the convent.

“A highlight of the tour is The Immaculate Conception chapel, with special attention paid to the details that amplify its beauty. A timeline of the history of the Sisters of St. Francis is also on display that traces their remarkable journey,” communications specialist Melinda Starkey.

Golf-cart tours of the cemetery and Memorial Chapel will also be available. Sisters will be available throughout the tour to answer questions and engage in conversation.

“Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a local resident, or simply looking for an enjoyable afternoon, the tour offers a unique opportunity to connect with the Sisters’ legacy,” Starkey said.

You can get more information by calling (812) 934-2475 and the Sisters of St. Francis is located at 22143 Main Street in Oldenburg.
