South Dearborn students raise $1K for local Imagination Library

(AURORA, Ind.) – South Dearborn students made a big donation to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Dearborn County.
Following Dolly’s passing, members of South Dearborn Middle School Student Government wanted to do something to honor her legacy.
The Student Government members teamed up with Aurora Elementary’s Student Leadership Team to host a “Spare Change Challenge.”
The challenge encouraged students at both schools to donate spare change over the course of a week in a grade-by-grade competition.
It resulted in $1,000 being raised for the local Imagination Library and a check was presented during ‘9 To 5 Day’ on Friday, September 25.
Laura Priebe serves as the administrator of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Dearborn County. She said the student donation will fund 700 books!

“When I received the check today, I asked the kids to raise their hand if they had received books when they were younger, and most of them did,” Priebe said.
South Dearborn Schools also encouraged students to wear pink for Dolly Parton on Friday.
The Student Government members also visited Aurora Elementary and read books to young students.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Dearborn County has been in existence since 2008 and is currently providing about 1,500 free books to local children.
