South Ripley student wins Governor's Cup hockey tournament

(INDIANAPOLIS) – A South Ripley seventh grader got to hoist a big trophy in Indianapolis this weekend!
Oliver Smith is a member of the 14U Columbus Flames travel hockey team.
His team competed in the Hoosier Division and made it all the way to the Indiana State Hockey Championship, also known as the Governor’s Cup.
Smith’s team faced the Indy Jr Fuel and the game came down to a sudden-death overtime.
Columbus prevailed and Smith and his teammates got the Governor’s Cup plus a championship ring for each player.
Oliver has been playing travel hockey for the past four years and his season isn’t done yet. He has upcoming tournaments in Ohio and St. Louis.
