Southeast Indiana native, educator releases debut book of poetry and prose

(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Dearborn County native has just released his debut book.

Paul Satchwill is a local educator who is sharing his poetry and prose collection in a powerful exploration of identity, grief, transformation and self-discovery.

Satchwill says the book invites readers into an intimate, lyrical journey of becoming—told with striking emotional clarity and poetic precision.

It is structured in three parts - Burrowed, Emergency, and Flight - which mirrors the life cycle of a cicada, using natural imagery and personal storytelling to trace the arc from silence and suppression to selfhood and freedom. 

Through poems, essays, and visual elements, 'MY TURN' paints a deeply personal narrative that speaks to the universal experience of growing into one’s truest self.

Satchwill said the book has been a long time coming and he feels he has a relatable story to share. 

“My hope with this body of work is that those who read it will see themselves—or someone they love—in the pages,” he said. 

“We often assume that by a certain age, we’ve arrived at who we’re meant to be—but becoming is a lifelong process. It takes time, intention, and often, a great deal of inner work. This book tells the story of that journey—of the work it took for me to arrive here, more whole and more myself than ever before," he added.
