Students from Decatur Co. rival schools to sing together at Holiday Walk

Watch a preview here:

(GREENSBURG, Ind. ) – Students from three Decatur County elementary schools are coming together for a holiday performance this weekend.

Choir students from Greensburg, North Decatur and South Decatur will take the stage at the Greensburg Holiday Walk on Saturday night.

It’s the first time the three schools, who are often considered rivals, will have an elementary choir performance together.

It was initiated by Greensburg Elementary music teacher Karen Matthews who worked alongside North Decatur music teacher Carrie Stier and South Decatur music teacher Kaitlin Harrell to make it happen.

“We are really trying to show the kids that music is not county rivalries. We’re all part of Decatur County and we can all make music together and do something special for the community,” Matthews said.

The three school choirs held a joint practice on Friday as they prepare for their big performance on the Courthouse Square.

South Decatur student Kiera Troutman says her class has been practicing the songs since November and enjoyed getting to sing alongside some new kids on Friday.

“I am pretty excited about Saturday night,” Troutman said.

Greensburg fifth grader Braelynne Dance added, “I think it is pretty cool. I like that we get together with South and North Decatur and get to meet new friends.”

North Decatur’s Riley Morgan mentioned, “It's also nice to see some of my old friends and sing together!”

The performance will take place around 6 p.m. as it follow the parade but will be prior to the Tree Lighting.
