(VEVAY, Ind.) – A Switzerland County 4-H member is stepping up in a big way to help a local family.
Chad and Crystal Higgins are known for the impact they've had on the local 4-H program. They've been involved for more than 20 years and have mentored the youth, provided leadership and helped improve the fairgrounds.
Last summer, Chad was diagnosed with colon cancer that has now spread to his liver.
Chad and the family have been facing a significant battle both medically and financially.
Kassidy Gabbard is an incoming eighth grader at Switzerland County Middle School who heard about the difficult situation. The 4-H member wanted to do something to help.
Gabbard has decided to donate one of her pigs to be auctioned off to raise funds for the Higgins family.
The livestock auction will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 and the fairgrounds are located at 507 Vineyard Street in Vevay.
The community is invited to attend the auction and support the family.
“Every donation, no matter the size is greatly appreciated and we would love to get this information out there not only to share Kassidy’s generosity but to help a wonderful family out,” said Switzerland County Guidance Counselor Misty Robbins.
