Kinne has been a conservation officer since 1985

(VEVAY, Ind.) – A longtime Switzerland County conservation officer is receiving district-wide recognition.
Steve Kinne has been named the District 9 Officer of the Year and is now in the running for the top conservation officer in the state.
Kinne has served as a conservation officer in Switzerland County since 1987.
He was part of the investigative section for the DNR's Division of Law Enforcement from 2011 to 2022 before returning to field patrol for the division.
District 9 includes Rush, Fayette, Union, Franklin, Decatur, Ripley, Jennings, Jefferson, Switzerland, Ohio, and Dearborn counties.
Kinne is now eligible for the Pitzer Award, presented to the top overall conservation officer in Indiana. The Pitzer Award is named after Conservation Officer James D. Pitzer, who was fatally shot while investigating illegal hunting activity in 1961 in Jay County.
