Switzerland Co. senior earns rare military scholarship

(VEVAY, Ind.) – A Switzerland County senior has earned a prestigious military scholarship.

Paige Earls has been selected for the National NROTC Navy Option Scholarship which is only awarded to about 3,000 students nationally every year.

The award will cover full tuition at the university of her choice and she will graduate as a commissioned U.S. Navy officer.

Earls has not announced what university she plans to attend but now knows she will not have to pay for tuition or any educational expenses.

It's a highly competitive nationwide process students must demonstrate strong academics, leadership potential, extracurricular involvement, and the qualities needed to become future naval officers.

“This achievement represents an exciting opportunity and a significant milestone as Paige considers her future educational and career goals. Her selection is something to be proud of, and we are excited to celebrate this well-deserved recognition,” said Switzerland County student event coordinator Tammy Hayes.

Earls not only excels in the classroom, but is also a standout soccer and track athlete.
