Watch the surprise here:
(OSGOOD, Ind.) – A longtime Jac-Cen-Del teacher got a big surprise in the classroom as Gail Mosier was nominated as the Napoleon State Bank Teacher of the Month for November!
Mosier has been teaching high school math at Jac-Cen-Del for 25 years and previously taught at South Dearborn.
Jac-Cen-Del Principal Matt Maple said all you have to do is visit her classroom one time to see how great of an educator she is.
“I’ve been around teachers for more than 20 years, and some are really good with upper level kids while some are really good with lower level kids, she is good with all of them and works her tail off to reach every kid,” Maple explained.
Napoleon State Bank President Joe Moorman said he was honored to recognize Mosier and commended her on the difference she is making.
“Teachers like Gail truly care and they are getting students to understand how important school is, as these students are the future of our communities and teachers like her are making a huge difference," Moorman said.
Mosier appreciates the recognition but added that this is not why she got into teaching. She says her goal with each student is to prepare them for success in the future.
One of her former students has noticed the impact Mosier has made. Joe Abplanap is a Jac-Cen-Del graduate who works for Napoleon State Bank and helps organize the Teacher of the Month surprise each month.
“I could go to her for anything and if I ever needed help before, during or after class, she is who I went to. She is actually the first person who taught me to balance a checkbook. I always just truly enjoyed her class,” Abplanap said.
We asked Mosier what her advice is to young people who are entering the education field or have an interest in teaching.
“You have to do it for the right reasons, and for me, it is loving the kids and wanting what is best for them,” Mosier said. “It’s a job that isn't just a 9-to-5 as you have to be willing to put in the work and do what is best for the kids.”
Mosier also works another job when she isn’t at school as she is a waitress at the Whistle Stop in Osgood on Sundays and during summers.
Congratulations Gail and we appreciate the difference you are making in Southeast Indiana!
