(LAWRENCEBURG, Ind.) – A candidate for Dearborn County Council District 3 says her priorities are to protect farmland, families and to bring fairness.
Amanda Thompson announced her bid by saying she is grounded in rural values, real-world experience, and a clear commitment to protecting Dearborn County’s land, livelihoods, and future.
Thompson grew up on a family farm and that experience has led her to opposing large-scale solar farms.
“Farmland is not just open space — it’s our food supply, our economy, and our heritage,” Thompson said. “Once it’s gone, it’s gone. County government has a responsibility to protect it.”
Thompson also believes Dearborn County must strengthen zoning protections to preserve rural communities and ensure residents — not outside commercial investors — have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect where they live.
She supports more rigorous zoning standards and greater accountability so development decisions reflect community priorities, not just corporate interests.
Thompson also supports better-paying jobs and believes growth should come through skilled trades, manufacturing, healthcare, education, social services, hospitality, small businesses, and technology — without sacrificing the county’s small-town character.
Thompson has an MBA in Healthcare and a background in criminal justice and government. She is also a small business owner and homeschool parent.
She also supports fair contracts, transparent bidding, and responsible oversight of government spending.
“I’m running because I care deeply about this community and the people who call it home,” Thompson said. “Dearborn County deserves leadership that listens, protects what makes us unique, and makes decisions with integrity and common sense.”
Thompson is running as a Democrat and the Primary is set for May 5.
